In the FIeld of PhysicsDr. Alcaraz was responsible for the establishment of geothermal powerplants in rural areas in the country. Namely, Tiwi, Albay, Mt. Makiling, Mt. Banahaw, and Leyte.
Alcaraz, with the help of his team made use of steam-powered electricity to power an electric light bulb. The power came from a volcano near the town of Tiwi, thus generating the first geothermal power in 1977. It sufficed the oil crisis that happened in the 70s. |
how it improved our way of lifeBecause of Alcaraz' discoveries the Philippines was able to be the second geothermal generating country in the world in the 1980s.
Nowadays, geothermal power plants supply an important part of the nation's power. It gives less pollution compared to the conventional fossil fuel plants. |
Impacts of His Contribution to myself
I really have high regards for people who don't forget to help their own. Those who do and give their best to improve their country for the better -- with pay or without. Like Dr. Alcaraz, although faced with the fact that the money he is earning from what he does is not enough to pay his children's college tuition, he did not seek for other jobs like his other schoolmates who have better salary than him. Instead, he continued pursuing his passion.
